01 Jul Basilica of San Valentino
Another of Terni’s principal religious monuments is the Basilica of San Valentino. The body of the city’s first bishop, famous now all over the world as St Valentine, the patron saint of lovers, is preserved inside the church.
Martyred in 273 after a long life dedicated to spreading the gospel, he was proclaimed the principal patron saint of the city in 1644, in recognition of his noble efforts. Special celebrations are held in Terni each year on February 14 in his honour.
Can also be reached by city bus.
